We visited Millstone, a cider and mead maker in a 19th century gristmill in Monkton, Maryland Sunday. We had a really good time learning about the complexities of the craft and the fun they have experimenting with different flavors and plants. The tasting was also a great pleasure and very informative.
While I really am not educated about ciders by any stretch, they did teach me to appreciate the variations they can tease from a variety of local produce to make a entertaining mix of tastes and exuberances. I now know enough to go into a cidery and ask, “What have you got new and good?”
If you’re in the Baltimore area and want a nice, quiet weekend experience, head over to Millstone Cellars.
PS: Of course we ended up with a few bottles to savor later.
