It is not at all surprising that an island in the middle of one of the continent’s most productive estuaries would have been inhabited for thousands of years. I’ve wanted to visit Tangier Island since first reading about the place some years ago. I finally made that visit back in May when Kitty and I were returning home from a visit with Emily in Baltimore.
Being a fool for taking pictures of fishing vessels, it was quite a vacation stop.
The island is renowned for its unique accent. Being eastern North Carolinians, residents didn’t sound so foreign to us. Tidewater, Hyde, Portsmouth, Ocracoke and others are not so different.
