Earlier this year, the Beaufort County Arts Council bought downtown Washington’s old movie theater, the Turnage. It’s been a wonderful move for everyone.
One of the partnerships has been with the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association to present a series known as Pamlico Opry. The August 23 feature showcased two girl bands who play Americana music.
After Jack was the headliner. The three young ladies (Mary, Emily, and Rachel) are multi-instrumentalists, swapping playing duties throughout the performance. Their biggest strength is their vocal harmonies, influenced by gospel and traditional music. The poster billed them as “spicy Appalachain folk.” Not a bad summation.
This Saturday night (September 13) the series is featuring John Dee Holeman and Lightnin’ Wells play acoustic Piedmont blues.
