Cannon’s Ferry, Chowan County, NC, is situated near Holiday Island, where the Chowan River turns south headed for the Albemarle Sound. I was raised just a few miles north of the landing. It was the site of several herring businesses. This photo was taken in 1971. The fish houses are all gone now. Though, it is still a beautiful spot.
